Volunteer as a Pet Pal!

Accompany pet guardians in need to veterinary appointments as a driver and support.

Pet Pals are a vital part of the Vancouver Humane Society’s (VHS’) veterinary assistance programming. From time to time, guardians of pets in distress will face a variety of obstacles getting their pet to a veterinary facility.

As a Pet Pal, you will be put on a list to accept requests from the VHS’s McVitie Program Manager to drive guardians to and from the veterinary hospital. A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required as a Pet Pal. Guardians may also require additional assistance such as:

  • Providing in-person support with challenging emotions at appointments
  • Remembering the vet’s recommended home care
  • Writing notes

The VHS is seeking Pet Pals anywhere in British Columbia. The greatest needs for support are within the Lower Mainland and near large urban centres (such as Kamloops, Kelowna, Prince George, Victoria, Nanaimo, and Port Alberni).
