The Vancouver Humane Society’s social media platforms are intended to share information and foster respectful, constructive conversations around animal welfare issues. To help keep this space safe, informative, and welcoming for all, we ask that you please observe the following criteria when commenting:
- Be respectful: We understand that animal welfare can be an emotional topic. However, we do not tolerate comments that are threatening, aggressive, inflammatory, or disrespectful.
- Comment in good faith: We do our best to respond to genuine questions and concerns that are brought forward with curiosity and a willingness to engage thoughtfully. Content that appears to be shared in bad faith, to provoke, derail, or disrupt, may be removed.
- Avoid dis/misinformation* and repetitive posting: Repeating the same claims across multiple threads, especially when not supported by credible sources, undermines meaningful discussion. We reserve the right to remove content that spreads false or misleading information.
- No personal attacks or harassment: Debate is welcome, but targeting individuals or groups, spreading harmful stereotypes, or engaging in name-calling will result in content removal.
- Stay on topic: Please keep comments relevant to the original post. Off-topic promotion, spam, or unrelated links misuse of this platform and detract from the conversation.
- Do not share personal or private information: This includes your own or others’ details.
- No offensive media: Images, memes, or links that include graphic, violent, or otherwise inappropriate content are not permitted.
Comments that do not follow these principles may be deleted and repeat violations may result in restricted access to our page.
The VHS team does our best to moderate comments to ensure this space remains one where thoughtful, compassionate dialogue can happen, even when we don’t all agree. Thank you for helping us maintain a positive and constructive social media environment.
*Definitions: Misinformation & Disinformation
Misinformation refers to false or inaccurate information that is shared without the intent to deceive. People spreading misinformation often believe the information to be true, even though it may be incorrect, misleading, or lacking context.
Disinformation is false information that is deliberately created and shared with the intent to mislead, manipulate, or cause harm. It often aims to provoke outrage, discredit others, or undermine trust in facts or organizations.
Both misinformation and disinformation can cause confusion, fuel division, and hinder constructive dialogue, especially on sensitive topics like animal welfare. That’s why we prioritize accuracy, respectful engagement, and the use of credible sources in our conversations.
