Dexter’s story

Susan and her 11-year-old son have been through so much. Fleeing violence, they have been living in shelters while searching for stable housing. Through it all, their sweet dog Dexter has been their constant companion.
Dexter has been part of their family since he was just seven weeks old. Susan shared, “he is very sweet little guy, he loves going to the off-leash dog park, he also goes to the beach and swims, basically he goes everywhere with us. He sleeps with my 11-year-old son, he hugs him all night.”
Now, Dexter is in urgent need of care. His teeth are in very poor condition, and he has three lumps on his body that need to be removed. The vet has warned that without immediate dental surgery, including possible extractions, Dexter’s life is at risk. Infections in his mouth could spread to his heart and quickly become fatal. While Dexter is sedated for his dental surgery, the vet will also remove the lumps on his body.
Susan is doing everything she can to care for her family. She lives on disability income assistance and much of the monthly income she receives goes toward her own essential medication. She told the VHS, “I have $17 in my bank account as of today” and has no way to cover the cost of Dexter’s urgent veterinary care.
Dexter is family to Susan and her son. He is giving them strength in the hardest of times.
Can you donate today to help Dexter receive the urgent veterinary care he needs?
